DALLAS (Feb. 27, 2018) – Officials at Spartan Air Academy Iraq, LLC announced today that the U.S. Government has awarded Spartan Iraq an initial mobilization contract to support the Iraq Air Force in establishing a new air academy for its cadets.
“We are delighted to work collaboratively with the U.S. Department of Defense and the Iraq Air Force to set up a new training program for pilots and aviation technicians in Iraq,” said Peter H. Harris, chief executive officer of Spartan Iraq. “This initiative is the culmination of years of effort and promises to bring lasting value to Iraq and the region.” The Academy is part of a multifaceted effort by the U.S. Government to support Iraq’s buildup of its own training infrastructure. This initial contract includes targeted start-up efforts for the Academy, including basic expeditionary facilities for classrooms, offices, and life support for Academy employees; development of tailored curriculum and training aids; and commencement of selected training programs. Spartan Iraq will be led on-site in Iraq by Colonel Rod Zastrow (U.S. Air Force-Retired), president of Spartan Iraq. “We welcome the opportunity to help provide Iraqi military professionals with knowledge and skills to fly and maintain planes while we work to establish a self-sufficient air academy,” commented Colonel Zastrow. The contract award to Spartan Iraq is part of a Foreign Military Sale announced last year by the U.S. Department of State. Spartan Iraq has been identified as the sole source for establishing the Academy, including training, life support, security and logistics. The ceiling amount for this initial mobilization contract is up to $45 million.
